Dance Recital & Costume Photography in Northwest Minnesota

Stress‑free photo day for your studio. Beautiful, affordable portraits for your dancers.
For Parents & Dancers
You’ve bought the costume, driven to practice, and watched the same routine a hundred times. Now you want more than a blurry phone picture from the back row.
Dance recital portraits give you:
- Sharp, well‑lit photos that show the full costume and expression
- Action images that capture leaps, spins, and that final bow
- Easy online viewing and ordering so grandparents can get their own prints
These are the photos that end up framed on the wall, not buried in your camera roll.

Dance Recital & Portrait FAQ
How do bookings work for dance recitals and portraits?
Dance recital and costume photo days are usually booked through your dance studio. Studio owners can contact Impact Photography directly to reserve a recital date or schedule a separate studio photo day. If you are a parent and your studio doesn’t have a photographer yet, you can reach out, and I’ll connect with your studio about options.
What areas do you serve for dance photography?
Impact Photography is based in Thief River Falls and serves dance studios and families across Northwest Minnesota. Sessions within roughly 50 miles are included; for longer drives, a standard mileage fee applies. If you’re unsure whether your town is covered, just ask.
What should dancers wear and bring on photo day?
Dancers should arrive in their full costume for the class being photographed: costume, tights, shoes, and any required accessories. Hair and makeup can follow your studio’s recital guidelines. It’s helpful to bring:
- Extra tights or a small safety kit for quick fixes
- Any small props used in the dance
- A cover‑up to protect costumes while waiting
Can you photograph siblings or friends together?
Yes. As time allows, I’m happy to capture sibling or “best friend” portraits in addition to each dancer’s individual photos. Just let me or the studio know ahead of time so we can plan a few minutes for those poses.
How will we see and order our photos?
After photo day, I carefully sort and prepare your images, then upload them to a secure online gallery. You’ll receive a private link where you can:
- View all of your dancer’s photos
- “Favorite” the ones you love
- Choose digital files, prints, or both
- Orders are placed and paid for online, and prints are fulfilled through a professional Minnesota lab.
How long does it take to get our dance photos?
Turnaround time depends on the size of the recital or studio, but most dance galleries are ready within 1–2 weeks, often sooner. I’ll give your studio a more exact estimate once we know your schedule and number of dancers.
How much does dance photography cost?
Individual dance portrait sessions start from $100. Full‑studio recital coverage and dedicated studio photo days are custom‑quoted based on the number of dancers, costumes, and classes involved. There is no cost to inquire; once I understand your studio’s needs, I’ll provide a clear quote before you decide.
What if my child is shy or hates having their picture taken?
That’s very common, especially for younger dancers. I guide every dancer through simple, age‑appropriate poses and keep the session relaxed so they can warm up. We’ll move at their pace, capture their best expressions, and if something goes wrong (closed eyes, major costume issue), I’ll take extra frames or a quick retake so you still end up with photos you’re proud to share.
